Build your summer camp experience to suit your needs with 14 weeks of Science Experiments, Outdoor Exploration, and Outdoor Fun every child will LOVE!

SUMMERCAMP OVERVIEW…

Outdoor Play

We explore nature by using the outdoors as our classroom. We make use of outdoor toys such as parachutes, balls, cones, chalk, etc.

Scientific Exploration

Each week we focus on a different science theme from insects to sense to the solar system. Hands-on activities include crafts, cooking projects, science experiments, and music.

Social Activities

We encourage every child to engage in social activities. Our focus is on individual activities during the learning periods of our day. We are dedicated to the development of both individual focus and social skills

Upcoming In-house Field Trips and Enrichment Programs

  • Tippi Toes: ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop classes

  • Mr. Bond’s Science Guys: hands-on workshops that correspond with the National Academic Standards for Science

  • Little Art House: invites young artists to imagine new concepts, explore various mediums, and create original works of art!

  • Mundito Spanish: culture and foreign language immersion classes

  • Visit from Nashville Zoo: Visits from a zookeeper on campus

WEEKLY THEMES

These themes complement our STEM-heavy Montessori curriculum both inside our classrooms and our large backyard, all summer long:

WEEK 1: UNDER THE SEA EXPLORATION

Our friends explore what is below the ocean’s surface by digging for seashells, catching fish with pipe cleaners, and sorting shells! We also have a saltwater density experiment that shows the difference between the ocean and our drinking water.

WEEK 2: DINOSAUR DISCOVERY

Volcanic eruptions, The Ige Age, and fossil excavation: This week is all about the life of dinosaurs!

WEEK 3: OOEY GOOEY SCIENCE 

Lots of fun science discovery this week including mixing primary and secondary colors, water solubility projects, and making foil boats.

WEEK 4: LITTLE BAKERS

Our Stars will participate in fruit and vegetable washing, making sweet and savory treats alongside their guides, and learn about how food fuels our bodies!

WEEK 5: MOOVIN’ AND GROOVIN’

This week, we will be discovering different styles of music! Our friends will craft their own button castanets, make maracas with rice, and create music with water.   

WEEK 6: GOING GREEN

Our focus this week is reduce, reuse, and recycle! Our friends will learn how to plant a seed, make apple bird feeders, and turn trash into treasure!

WEEK 7: BARNYARD PALOOZA

Our friends will learn more about all of the animals we can find on a farm. We will learn about herding sheep, the life cycle of a chicken, explore in the sensory bins, and make butter!

WEEK 8: BOTANICAL WONDERS

We will be discovering a variety of flowers and ways to use them! Our friends will learn about the life cycle of a flower, making floral arrangements, and experimenting with the color of flower petals!

WEEK 9: ANIMAL ACTION

Lots of fun animal discovery this week! We will be discussing who lives in a zoo, experiment with jellyfish bead counting, and working on fine motor skills to make a hedgehog with playdough!

WEEK 10: SUMMER CAMP OLYMPICS

This week we will learn about the Olympics! Our friends will participate in a long jump activity, make Olympic torches, and discover Olympic traditions!

WEEK 11: SYMPHONY OF THE FIVE SENSES

We will be conducting taste and smell tests and exploring our mystery box along with blindfold drawings, mystery sound eggs, scented Playdough, taste tests, homemade finger paint, touch scavenger hunt, and five senses matching which are all part of the exploration of our senses.

WEEK 12: SPIRIT WEEK/COUNTRIES

We will be learning simple phrases in languages from countries around the world! We will also be exploring cultures and cuisines and learning about their flags!

WEEK 13: TRANSPORTATION

We start the week with “parking lot math”, making traffic lights, and ice boat racing! This week is all about different methods of transportation and how we can utilize them.

WEEK 14: RAINBOW WEEK

This week is all about colors! We are discussing colors of the rainbow and how light refracts to make these colors! Our friends will make a rainbow in a jar, participate in a “walking rainbow” experiment, and make rainbow pizza!

KINDERGARTEN READINESS

Southern Stars Summer Camp includes Kindergarten Readiness in the curriculum for our older students who will attend Kindergarten in the Fall. Our Kindergarten Readiness Program is designed with the individual child in mind, to prepare him or her to successfully enter school and joyfully manage the “job of Kindergarten.” This program will include

  • phonetic learning and development of pre-reading/reading skills

  • basic math skill enhancements

  • writing utensil control and use

We will focus on all the skills your soon-to-be elementary student will need to be successful, all while having fun and exploring our world!

MORE ABOUT SOUTHERN STARS SUMMER CAMP

  • Southern Stars Montessori is a State Licensed Preschool.

  • Our teachers run the Summer Camp. All teachers are credentialed and have years of experience in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Development.

  • We provide a chance to experience traditional summer camp fun with exploration, outdoor play, music, arts and crafts, and geographic discovery.

  • We have a thematic integrated curriculum. We use outdoor play extensively with our curriculum.

  • We follow State Licensed ratios for the entire day. Our teachers work with dedicated aids and assistants to provide a safe, fun, academic experience.
